With the Academy Awards coming up this weekend, I wove the theme into talking points that I wanted to share with the St. Stephens small group session.
"Looking back over the recent period in your life, what would you like to acknowledge yourself for...Your name has just been called to receive the ACADEMY AWARD for ___________."
Each one of us took time to tell the group why we were winning the Academy Award. I listened and watched intently, looking for clues for where the passion resonated in each Oscar Winner. I took joy in pointing out where energy levels elevated and facial expressions revealed all. A few well-placed questions helped to lead away from the head and into the heart.
"Being the gifted, talented and driven artists that we are, look ahead to next year's award and claim your Oscar right now: for what accomplishment in the months to come will you win your next Oscar?"
As each person described a Future Accomplishment, there was a great feeling of empowerment and liberation that took over the room. The great Art of Possibility was embraced. And we could sense that embracing that space is exactly where God wants us to be.
In coming to a close, Mercer observed that each of our Oscars was related to personal gains rather than aligned with job success: though career search needs initially brought the group together, true values reside in a larger calling. Being is of greater value than Doing.
For Homework: What is the title of your next leading-role movie?
This is inspiring! Really makes me think of the next title of my movie. You have a knack for stretching people and helping them reach their potential! Keep up the wonderful inspiring work you are doing!
