The other day, one of my buddies from Needle's Eye mentioned that he just needed to go sit on the beach, and push his toes way down through the sand and "connect with the ocean."
No matter the body of water, I always feel the power and the energy of being on the water: there truly is an ion energy field that enters through the pores of my skin that grounds me at the deepest level. But George's ritual in the sand suggests a deeper connection on a spiritual level. Through "contact" with the sea, George is tapping the constant wave action and insessant movement of the earth's natural rhythm. The ocean's energy pours up through George's feet, through the legs and into his whole body. He's made a connection with his Spirit at the deepest level.
As I joined with friends and colleagues through the remainder of the week, I tried to connect with them as if putting my own toes into the sand. No longer were we just "catching up" through friendly conversation. My intent was to reach the water, where the current flows with the unleashed power of the Spirit. That's where I need to be in every relationship. Toes in.
